| Why do I have to lift weights? I don't want to lift weights or get "big"! |

Q: Why do I have to lift weights? I don’t want to get “big” lifting weights! I just want to get toned/slim/firm. Should I do CrossFit? (Frequently asked by women). A: Yes. Here's the short answer- most people are weak and need more strength. Strength is what prevents orthopedic injuries, hip fractures and ending up in a nursing home. Lack of strength is what ends up making people so deconditioned that they can no longer care for themselves. Who needs strength? EVERYONE. Women, by virtue of having 8-10x less testosterone than men, almost CAN'T get "big" by lifting weights. Fact. In addition, here at CrossFit Elysium we train using methods and rep schemes which are designed to build STRENGTH, NOT SIZE. The stereotypical bodybuilder look with huge muscles and fake tans is NOT what we're aiming for, and can only be achieved with a specific training protocol which we do NOT employ here. For more detailed information, PLEASE read the article titled "Strength" here. You may have to scroll down a bit. Please. |
